National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921. NHS students and their peers volunteer in their communities at the highest rates and make connecting with and serving within the community a priority. Students at Sedro-Woolley High School who embody and believe in the four pillars of NHS, can apply to be involved in the SWHS National Honor Society Chapter. High standards in all four categories are required to maintain membership.

Of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character.

Pillars of NHS

Scholarship:

  • Commitment to learning and education

  • Seek knowledge in order to contribute to the world

Service:

  • Seek opportunities to serve others

Leadership:

  • Carry oneself with dignity

  • Take ownership and responsibility for one’s own actions

Character:

  • Personal commitment to ethical and compassionate decision making that affects oneself and others

Charities & Events

The Sedro-Woolley National Honor Society Chapter is actively involved in supporting local Charities such as The Teen Oasis Shelter, Lydia’s Place, and local food banks.

Each year, we also have two formal events: a fall induction ceremony to welcome new members, and the “Power Of One” event which allows seniors to honor a staff member who has impacted them most.

How to Join

Must take two or more advanced courses each year and maintain a 3.4 or higher GPA—see detailed criteria in the form link below

If you believe you qualify to be a member of National Honor Society, you can apply to be inducted this fall.
