Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of death in exercising or at play young people on school campus. Nick of Time Foundation, in partnership with the UW Center for Sports Cardiology, will be conducting EKG youth heart screenings for adolescents and young adults ages 12-24 at Sedro-Woolley High School on Wednesday, May 1. Screenings consist of a Heart Health Survey asking about possible signs & symptoms or family history of a heart condition. An EKG is performed that analyzes the electrical signals of the heart and the results are reviewed on site by medical professionals experienced in EKG youth heart screens. A simple EKG can identify certain serious heart conditions that cannot be detected by a stethoscope. Date: Wednesday, May 1, 2024 Time: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Location: Sedro-Woolley High School, 1235 3rd St., Sedro Woolley, WA 98284 More Information: www.nickoftimefoundation.org Appointments are open to anyone 12-24 yrs., regardless of where they go to school. Get to know our incredible team in the β€œMeet our Staff” Monday series! We hope you enjoy getting to know the faces behind the scenes! #MeetOurStaffMonday #BehindTheScenes #EmployeeAppreciation #GetToKnowUs #SWSDStrongerTogether Brooke Madsen Thompson's journey in education and coaching began with a passion for working with children. Originally from Stanwood, Brooke's desire to make a difference in young lives led her to pursue various coaching roles, starting from her high school years. Her love for sports, particularly basketball, intertwined seamlessly with her commitment to mentoring and guiding students. After relocating to Sedro-Woolley in 2021, Brooke seized the opportunity to apply her expertise in the Sedro-Woolley School District, eventually landing roles such as the Cascade Middle School (CMS) girls' basketball intramurals coach and the CMS campus safety officer. With 30 years of coaching experience spanning from youth recreation teams to college-level athletics, Brooke brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to her roles within the district. Although her educational journey didn't lead to a college degree, Brooke's hands-on experience in sports management and coaching, coupled with her training in Facility Game Management, equips her with a unique skill set that enriches the educational landscape of Sedro-Woolley. For Brooke, the most rewarding moments in her career stem from witnessing the personal growth and achievements of her students. Whether it's helping a player score their first basket or organizing championships, such as the NWACC girls' basketball championships, Brooke finds fulfillment in empowering students to realize their potential both on and off the court. Outside of her professional endeavors, Brooke is a devoted mother and finds joy in supporting her children's interests, from wrestling to literature and even "par coring" adventures. Her commitment to her family mirrors her dedication to her students, creating a nurturing environment that fosters growth and exploration. Looking ahead, Brooke hopes to obtain her teaching degree, with a focus on middle school education. Her favorite quote from Kobe Bryant, "The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great at whatever they want to do," encapsulates her philosophy of education and mentorship. As she continues her journey, Brooke's advice to students echoes this sentiment: "You CAN do Hard Things!" Ultimately, Brooke hopes that every student in the Sedro-Woolley School District feels supported and empowered to pursue their dreams, knowing that they have a network of dedicated individuals, including teachers, staff, and coaches, who believe in their potential.
