The Sedro-Woolley School District will be operating normally today, including the usual one-hour late start on Wednesdays for professional development.
There are some impacted or closed roads due to flooding. The Transportation Department will directly communicate with families affected by these road closures.
For families at the Red Cross Shelter in Hamilton, there are specific arrangements for student transportation. A bus will pick up middle and high school students at the church's driveway at approximately 8 a.m. Elementary school students will be picked up at 9:45 a.m. Students will be dropped off at the same location in the afternoon.
Running Start
Due to the current situation, we strongly urge students and parents to exercise caution when navigating to Skagit Valley College for running start classes. Specifically, roads such as Francis, Mud Lake, and Swan are often flooded (there have been reports of water over Swan Road overnight).
NCTA
Buses will be transporting students from the high school to NCTA classes at the Mount Vernon and Anacortes Skills Centers. Any students who have been allowed to self-transport due to special circumstances should consider riding the buses to and from classes today.
For more information, please click the link below:

We will continue to monitor river levels overnight. The Skagit River is expected to crest at 36.31 feet in Concrete at 10 p.m. tonight. Major flood stage is at 32.5 feet. The river is expected to crest at 35.32 feet in Mount Vernon at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
We anticipate water over some roadways and our transportation supervisors plan to evaluate the roadways that are flood prone in the morning.
Luckily, tomorrow is already a one-hour late start for professional development, which will allow us extra time in making a decision.
If we decide to add an extra hour to the typical Wednesday schedule, for a two-hour late start, we will let families and staff know no later than 7 a.m.
A reminder, if we decide to call a two-hour late start, this would be the schedule:
Two-Hour Late Start Times:
Elementary schools — 11:25 a.m.
Cascade Middle School — 9:40 a.m.
Sedro-Woolley High School — 9:55 a.m.
State Street High School — 10 a.m.
If there is no announcement tomorrow morning, that means we are on the normal one-hour late start for professional development Wednesday.
One-Hour Late Start Times:
Elementary schools — 10:25 a.m.
Cascade Middle School — 8:40 a.m.
Sedro-Woolley High School — 8:55 a.m.
State Street High School — 9 a.m.
If we decide to cancel school, we will also notify families and staff know no later than 7 a.m.
And, finally, a decision about after-school activities and events will made by 1 p.m. This would be communicated via Remind and Final Forms. For students who live in flood prone areas, please communicate directly with coaches about your ability to attend practices/games.
Thank you for your patience and understanding in this situation. Please stay safe this evening and tomorrow morning.
Don't forget, all schools will start one hour late tomorrow so staff can participate in professional development!

We are starting to see and hear about water over some roadways. We understand some families may need to pick up their students early because of potential road closures this afternoon.
Our transportation department supervisors are monitoring roads. They will be contacting some families to make arrangements for drop off this afternoon at safe locations. However, if families think they may need to drive through water later on in the day as waters rise, we understand the need to self-transport while it's daylight.
Please make sure you remind student drivers to turn around if they see water over roadways.
Skagit County is posting some road closures here: https://skagitcounty.net/reporting/roadclose/
