Sedro-Woolley School District's Food Service Department is pleased to announce the continuation of free breakfast and lunch meals for ALL students for the upcoming school year. The continuation of free meals is possible through implementation of the United States Department of Agriculture Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). CEP is an option for school districts that have at least 40% of students who directly qualify for free meals through a variety of assistance programs, including Basic Food benefits, Medicaid, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), McKinney Vento or Migrant programs.
Families that are eligible for free or reduced benefits based on income may complete the 2023-2024 Family Income Survey. This survey allows the District to track income data for families that is used to determine funding levels for a variety of educational programs offered throughout the District. The surveys will be available online (https://www.swsd.k12.wa.us/page/family-income-survey), at your student’s school, or at the Food Service office. Surveys can be returned to the school office or Food Service office at 780 Cook Road, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
Please note that CEP allows the service of one free breakfast and one free lunch daily. If students wish to have more than one meal per day, they will need to have funds added to their food service account online or in the school office, and will be charged accordingly. A second breakfast costs $3.00, and a second lunch costs $4.75. In addition, milk is an a la carte item. When taken by itself, the cost is $0.60. Students can receive a milk for free by ensuring they select a reimbursable “milk meal”, which includes a milk, fruit and vegetable. With this option, students are not required to take the daily entrée.
The Food Service is looking forward to providing free meals again to all students. Any questions about CEP or the Food Service Program can be directed to the Food Service office at 360-855-3515.
Sedro-Woolley School District has been working on installing more energy-efficient equipment and making buildings smarter. With the installation of condensing boilers, high-efficiency furnaces, and custom direct digital controls (DDCs), the school is poised to save more than 44,000 therms annually.
The district received a total incentive of $116,280 from the Cascade Natural Gas (CNGC) Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency program to offset the cost of the facility upgrades paid for by Capital Levy funds. Sedro-Woolley voters approved the six-year levy in 2020. $2.5 million is being collected annually to fix a long list of projects to prolong the life of our buildings. Receiving the incentive from CNGC will allow the capital levy funding to be used for lower-priority projects that may have not otherwise been possible because of increased costs.

The Sedro-Woolley RISE Coalition (https://www.swsd.k12.wa.us/page/rise-rallying-to-inspire-safe-environments) is collecting feedback from adults in the Sedro-Woolley community about youth substance use, mental health and other related topics.
The information families provide helps inform and improve prevention programs for youth. The survey only takes 2-3 minutes and is completely anonymous. The coalition needs at least 150 surveys, so please try to help!

Donating extra school supplies: We have had some families want to know the best way to donate extra school supplies. The easiest way is to just buy extra supplies that are on the lists, put them in a bag and label the bag as “extra”. If you’re donating extra tissue paper or sanitizing wipes, you could just send the extra and the teachers will know it’s for them to use throughout the year. Please keep in mind that teachers have parents buy these supplies now for the entire school year because they know they’re on sale in the summer and easier to find. For anyone wanting to know what to donate at the secondary level, pencils are the #1 item students request from staff. You could send extra pencils with your student and have them donate them to the teacher of their choice. This will be extremely appreciated!
