Students in grades 4–6 from Big Lake (and Clear Lake, if they can get a ride!) are diving into problem-solving challenges that build critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork.
Throughout the year, the team will practice new math skills and compete virtually against students from around the country through the Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) program.
We can’t wait to see what these mathletes accomplish! 🧮✨

Adele Eslinger from United General District 304’s Farm to School program taught students about cover crops—plants that protect soil from erosion during our rainy winter months—and companion planting with garlic. Students teamed up to discover which plants grow best together and why healthy soil matters for everyone!

Stay gold, Cubs! ✨
Cascade Middle School wrapped up its 7th grade Outsiders unit today with a classic tradition — “Greaser vs. Socs Day!”
Students and staff dressed the part, celebrating the beloved S.E. Hinton novel before watching the film in class. From leather jackets and slicked-back hair to cardigans and pearls, today was all about bringing the story to life and ending the unit in true Outsiders style. 💫
📖 “Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.”

Students and staff across Sedro-Woolley School District joined millions worldwide today for the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill—practicing how to stay safe in the event of an earthquake.
At State Street High School, students took cover under desks and tables as part of this annual statewide safety exercise.
Drills like this help us stay prepared and ready to respond in an emergency. 💪

Farm to School instructor Miles Lane brought science to life at Lyman Elementary today!
First graders learned all about the function of leaves—how they help plants breathe, eat, and grow—before heading outside to choose a leaf from the school garden and create colorful leaf rubbings.
Later, fifth graders dug into a lesson on composting, collecting materials from the garden to see how nature recycles nutrients back into the soil.
Through the Sedro-Woolley School District’s Farm to School program, students are exploring where food comes from and how every part of a plant plays a role in keeping our environment healthy. 🌿💙

The donations are in exchange for a total of 10 newspaper racks built by Dan Caldwell’s students—five were completed during the 2024–25 school year, and the remaining five will be built this year.
A longtime supporter of Career and Technical Education and a member of the journalism advisory board, Miller said, “I love these kind of collaborative projects, where everyone wins and everyone’s happy.”
The project gives students hands-on experience while meeting a real community need, creating a true win-win partnership.

Clear Lake Elementary students dug into hands-on science this week with Farm to School educator Adele Eslinger!
In Anna Wright’s fifth-grade class, students learned how compost transforms garden waste into nutrient-rich soil, then headed outside for fall garden cleanup. Meanwhile, Katie Martinson’s first graders explored the magic of seeds—discovering how they sprout, grow roots, and even travel by wind, animals, and “sticky burrs.”
Through the Sedro-Woolley School District’s Farm to School program, students are learning where food comes from, how it grows, and how caring for the earth connects to healthy eating and lifelong learning. 🌾💙
