🍎 Taste Washington Day is Almost Here! 🍏 Taste Washington Day this Wednesday, October 2! This special day gives our students the chance to connect with our state’s rich agricultural heritage. Sedro-Woolley School District's Food Services Department has been hard at work sourcing fresh, local ingredients to highlight on this special day. For Breakfast: 🥣 All schools will serve fruit and yogurt parfaits made with creamy vanilla yogurt from Grace Harbor Farms in Custer and locally grown blueberries and raspberries from NW Berry Coop in Everson. 🍓 Sedro-Woolley High School will also offer smoothies featuring local strawberries from NW Berry Coop. For Lunch: 🌭 Elementary schools and Cascade Middle School will enjoy 100% beef hot dogs with franks from Three Sisters Farm on Whidbey Island. 🥗 Coleslaw made with fresh cabbage and carrots from Ralph's Greenhouse in Mount Vernon. 🥕 Rainbow carrot sticks from Ralph's Greenhouse. 🍎 Crisp apples from Bellewood Acres in Lynden. 🍐 Juicy Bartlett pears from Whitestone Mountain Orchards in Tonasket. Sedro-Woolley High School will feature the same delicious apples, pears, and rainbow carrots. Taste Washington Day gives our students the chance to connect with our state’s rich agricultural heritage. By learning about the journey from farm to fork, they’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the food on their plates and the hard work behind it. Let’s inspire the next generation to carry forward Washington’s agricultural legacy! 🌾👩‍🌾 #TasteWashingtonDay #FarmToFork #LocalHarvest #SWFoodServices

Evergreen School Picture Day is today! 📸 Don't forget to smile! #PictureDay #EvergreenSchool
Today, Evergreen fourth graders shared a heartfelt tribute with our local heroes. Lieutenant Bontrager, Firefighter Mintz, and Firefighter Wurtz from the Sedro-Woolley Fire Department visited Evergreen Elementary, where the students presented what they learned from the book, "The Man in the Red Bandana." This moving story honors Welles Crowther, a young man who, on September 11, 2001, showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy. As the South Tower of the World Trade Center burned, Welles, known as the man in the red bandana, made three trips back to the sky lobby on the 78th floor, rescuing countless people. His bravery that day, at just 24 years old, remains an example of the highest form of heroism. One survivor, Judy Wein, said it best: “People can live 100 years and not have the compassion, the wherewithal to do what he did.” As they learned about Welles Crowther, the fourth graders reflected on the importance of remembering 9/11 and the countless lives lost that day. To honor this hero and all the firefighters who risk their lives every day, the students shared words they felt describe these courageous individuals: “Awesome, Heroes, Saviors, Fantastic, Helpful, Handsome (to which the firefighters wholeheartedly agreed), Brave, Lifesavers, Courageous.” At the end of the visit, the class presented "The Man in the Red Bandana," signed by all the students, to the firefighters. With gratitude, Lieutenant Bontrager thanked them, explaining that the entire department was wearing black bands on their badges today to honor the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11. “We remember them in this way,” he said. Today, our school community remembers the courage of all the heroes, past and present. Thank you to our local firefighters for your dedication, bravery, and service. May we never forget. #NeverForget #911 #FirstResponders #RedBandanaHero
