The Mount Vernon School District is excited to be hosting Austina De Bonte, former President of the Northwest Gifted Child Association and nationally recognized expert on the cognitive, social and emotional development of Highly Capable children. Her presentation is titled: Smart Is Not Easy: What Research Says About Highly Capable Learners.
The presentation will take place on Monday, Nov. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mount Vernon High School Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. The discussion is geared toward parents, teachers and administrators. While students are welcome to attend, the content will be dense and it may be difficult for some children to maintain attention. Location: South of Central Elementary School, West of Mary Purcell Elementary School.
Travel: One lane is now open for traffic.
Caution: Employees, parents, and volunteers who usually park along Nelson behind the portables should avoid the area today due to ongoing cleanup.
🚦 Traffic Instructions:
Buses: One lane is open for bus travel. Please use caution and follow the designated route.
Families: We kindly request that families try their best to avoid Nelson Street until the cleanup is complete. This will assist in a smoother and safer process.
👷♂️ Ongoing Cleanup:
Cleanup efforts are in progress to clear debris and ensure the safety of the area.
Your cooperation in steering clear of the affected zone is greatly appreciated.

🌬️ Alert: Power Outage Update! 🌳
The impact of the overnight windstorm has affected power at Mary Purcell and Central elementary schools.
🏫 School Updates:
Mary Purcell Elementary: Power has been successfully restored after PSE repaired the transformer this morning.
Central Elementary: The power transformer was destroyed, but PSE aims to have it repaired by tomorrow. The school should be up and running before Monday. Please stay tuned for updates.
🔧 Infrastructure Damage:
A fallen tree on Nelson Street, east of Central portables, damaged the power pole and part of the fence. PSE is working on repairs with similar ETAs to the Central transformer.
⚠️ Communication Impact:
Due to downed lines, internet and phone services are currently unavailable. We appreciate your patience as we work to restore these services.
📅 Upcoming Repairs:
School maintenance workers will address fence repairs on Monday.
🕰️ Estimated Restoration Times:
While PSE does not have exact timing estimates, they are working diligently, and we anticipate power restoration within the next 24 hours.
