A panel of 10 professionals from PACCAR visited Sedro-Woolley High School this morning to share insights about careers in the trucking industry. The panelists, representing various roles at the company, fielded questions from students about their career paths, daily work, and educational opportunities. The speakers, each with a unique story, were asked how they entered the trucking industry. Some shared that their careers took unexpected turns, like one panelist who discovered a passion for engineering during an internship with PACCAR. Another highlighted the value of tuition reimbursement, explaining how it helped them complete their degree while working full time. The discussion also touched on educational opportunities within PACCAR, including CDL training, project management certification, and support for continuing education. One panelist, who earned a master’s degree with PACCAR's support, advised students to stay curious and open to new experiences. "You can always change direction." The PACCAR employees emphasized the essential role of trucking in daily life. "If trucks don’t deliver goods to a grocery store, the store could be empty in three days," one panelist noted. When asked about their proudest career moments, stories ranged from technical achievements, such as developing a cost-saving solution for recall issues, to completing advanced degrees. The panelists also discussed the sense of community within PACCAR, with many describing their colleagues as "family" and emphasizing the importance of enjoying the work environment. As they closed, the speakers shared advice for the graduating seniors: ask questions, explore different jobs, and take action—even if you're unsure of your exact path. For those interested in PACCAR, the company offers a supportive environment with opportunities for growth and learning. After the discussion, students had the opportunity to get an up-close look at a Kenworth truck, one of PACCAR's signature models, which allowed students to see the technology and engineering behind the vehicle.

Reminder: Today, November 4, is the end of the first quarter for middle and high school students. Remind your students to start the second quarter strong. Turn in work on time, ask teachers for extra help during Cub Academic Time at Sedro-Woolley High School, or look at their class syllabus to see when they’re available before or after school. There is zero shame in asking for help if you’re struggling in a subject. Encourage your students to ask their friends who are excelling to help them understand the subjects better. This can help both students grasp concepts in a deeper way.
