A panel of 10 professionals from PACCAR visited Sedro-Woolley High School this morning to share insights about careers in the trucking industry. The panelists, representing various roles at the company, fielded questions from students about their career paths, daily work, and educational opportunities. The speakers, each with a unique story, were asked how they entered the trucking industry. Some shared that their careers took unexpected turns, like one panelist who discovered a passion for engineering during an internship with PACCAR. Another highlighted the value of tuition reimbursement, explaining how it helped them complete their degree while working full time. The discussion also touched on educational opportunities within PACCAR, including CDL training, project management certification, and support for continuing education. One panelist, who earned a master’s degree with PACCAR's support, advised students to stay curious and open to new experiences. "You can always change direction." The PACCAR employees emphasized the essential role of trucking in daily life. "If trucks don’t deliver goods to a grocery store, the store could be empty in three days," one panelist noted. When asked about their proudest career moments, stories ranged from technical achievements, such as developing a cost-saving solution for recall issues, to completing advanced degrees. The panelists also discussed the sense of community within PACCAR, with many describing their colleagues as "family" and emphasizing the importance of enjoying the work environment. As they closed, the speakers shared advice for the graduating seniors: ask questions, explore different jobs, and take actionβ€”even if you're unsure of your exact path. For those interested in PACCAR, the company offers a supportive environment with opportunities for growth and learning. After the discussion, students had the opportunity to get an up-close look at a Kenworth truck, one of PACCAR's signature models, which allowed students to see the technology and engineering behind the vehicle.

Central and Mary Purcell elementary schools held a combined Veterans Day parade this morning honoring local veterans. The Sedro-Woolley High School marching band participated in the parade, which was led by the Sedro-Woolley police and fire departments. Many thanks to the City of Sedro-Woolley's employees who help close down the streets so our students can take part in these traditional events. We truly appreciate your help (some of these folks even volunteer their time on days off to make these events possible!).

Sedro-Woolley School District's early dismissal schedule has changed slightly for our secondary schools.
The Sedro-Woolley School District has been awarded the 2024 Chamber of Commerce's Large Business of the Year Award, recognizing its impact on the community and commitment to students and staff. Superintendent Dr. Miriam Miralles Mickelson and School Board President Eric Johnson accepted the award on the district's behalf at today's Chamber luncheon. Serving approximately 4,200 students from preschool through 12th grade, the district includes one comprehensive high school, one alternative high school, a middle school, seven elementary schools, and a preschool program. With a team of over 700 full- and part-time staff, the district plays a central role in the Sedro-Woolley community, fostering strong partnerships with local families and businesses. Generations of families have attended Sedro-Woolley schools, and the district is seeing a more diverse population with languages such as Spanish, Russian, and Ukrainian spoken in students' homes. The district remains committed to parent engagement and community involvement. In addition to high-quality academics, students also benefit from a wide range of extracurricular activities, including athletics, performing arts, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
