🐾 Cougar Sighting Alert 🐾
Well, folks, Lyman Elementary School's wildlife club just got a new member - a real wild cougar! 🐆 While we didn't have that on our bingo card, safety is no game.
Our dedicated staff is putting on their best "big cat" impression, keeping a close eye during recess. If your little one (or middle/high school student) hangs out in this animal-loving area while waiting for the bus or walking to school, please be extra cautious!
And if you happen to spot our elusive feline friend, remember: don't panic, don't play hide-and-seek, and definitely don't try to pet it. 🙅♂️ Instead, stand tall, make noise, and back away slowly. 🌿🦁 #SafetyFirstLyman #CougarWatch2023 🚫🏃♂️

🚧🛣️ Big News! The contractor crew is making remarkable progress on the new fire lane between Evergreen Elementary School and the bus lanes at Cascade Middle School. 🚌✨
This lane will eventually serve as a dedicated bus route, helping ease traffic on McGarigle Road during those busy drop-off and pick-up times. 🚌🚸 Kudos to the dedicated team bringing this project to life! 🙌

🎉🥉 Solid Season for Sedro-Woolley High School Trap Shooting Team! 🥉🎉
The SWHS Trap Shooting team ended their season with a commendable performance at the District Championship, securing a fantastic third place out of eleven teams!
Top Four Team Scores:
Burlington-Edison High School: 184 points
Meridian High School: 179 points
Sedro-Woolley High School: 174 points (including a solid 38 for the 5th score)
Ferndale High School: 174 points (with a respectable 36 for the 5th score)
Senior Parker Nelson tied for an overall second-place finish with an impressive score of 47. Parker's contributions have been nothing short of invaluable this season.
A huge shout out to the entire district team - Sophie Johnson, Mayson Mitchell, Anthony Marandola, and Caleb Bethea - for their unwavering dedication and incredible teamwork!

Mark your calendars now for November's conference week, Veterans Day observation, as well as Thanksgiving's early release and two-day break. Please note, there is no Good Beginnings Preschool on early release days.
On Monday, November 6 and Tuesday, November 7, all elementary schools will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. for parent-teacher conferences.
On Wednesday, November 8, there is NO LATE START because of the early release day for all K-12 students. Cascade Middle School students will be dismissed at 10:15 a.m.; State Street High School at 10:20 a.m. and Sedro-Woolley High School at 10:30 a.m. All elementary schools will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.
On Thursday, November 9, Cascade Middle School students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m.; State Street High School at 11:20 a.m. and Sedro-Woolley High School at 11:30 a.m. All elementary schools will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.
On Friday, November 10, there is no school as we observe Veterans Day. All offices will also be closed.

Though all families are welcome to attend, we want to extend a special invitation to our Spanish-speaking families, as this night will be hosted by our multilingual department to ensure that they are fully supported. 🎭👸🏼 The "Princess Who" drama production will be held on Oct. 20 & 21 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the old CMS cafeteria, 201 N. Township. Tickets will be $5 at the door. 🎟️👑 Pull into the parking area off of N. Township Street and either park straight ahead in the back parking lot/bus lane area or near the electronic reader board. Overflow parking is the regular school lot, but you will need to follow the path around the building to access the cafeteria. Limited disabled parking; please arrive early.
Did you know that all fourth graders are eligible for an Every Kid Outdoors pass? Visit the bilingual Every Kid Outdoors website (https://everykidoutdoors.gov/pass.htm), participate in a short educational activity, and then download a paper voucher to print and bring when you visit public lands and waters across the country!
Official rules
• The pass is for U.S. fourth-grade (or home-school equivalent) students.
• The pass is for the 2023 to 2024 school year. It expires August 31, 2024.
• Students can't transfer the pass to anyone else.
• We can’t accept electronic versions of this paper for access or to exchange for a pass.
• No refunds are given for previously purchased passes, or if you forget your pass when you visit.
• If you lose your pass, get a new one by visiting the website and signing up again.
• Educators can get one paper pass for each of their fourth-grade students.
• This program only provides passes for fourth graders.
How it works
• Show your pass to a ranger when you enter. If there is no ranger, leave it on the dashboard of your car.
• If you visit a site that charges entrance fees per person— The pass admits all children under 16 and up to three adults for free.
• If your group visits a site that charges vehicle entrance fees - The pass admits all children under 16 and all adults in up to one passenger vehicle. Commercial vehicles can't use a pass to get in.
• If you arrive at a site on bicycle— The pass admits all children under 16 and up to three adults on bicycles.
• The pass doesn't cover things like parking fees, camping, boats, and special tours. Also, some sites are managed by private operators. They may not honor the pass. Check with the site ahead of time to find out.
• The pass doesn’t cover fees for local, city, or state parks and recreation areas unless they say that they accept this pass.
• Paper passes can be exchanged for plastic passes at certain sites.
The district is seeking nominations for the Community Recognition program to honor those who have dedicated themselves to the Sedro-Woolley School District and the Sedro-Woolley community.
Nominees can be individuals outside or within the school district that have rendered outstanding service to the community or demonstrated loyal support and outstanding accomplishments in areas such as community service, academics, performing arts, or athletics.

Sedro-Woolley School District nurses continue to partner with the Sedro-Woolley Lions Club to use the spot vision screening device to test the vision of our students. Today, they were at Lyman Elementary School complete the state-mandated hearing and vision screening.
The local Lions Club received a 50/50 matching grant from the Northwest Lions Foundation allowing them to purchase the $8,000 spot vision screening device in 2018.
The screening device is a huge time saver for the district nurses. The state changed all of the guidelines during the 2017–2018 school year and the vision kits available from the state were cumbersome and time consuming.
