🎉 Happy School Custodian Appreciation Day! 🎉
Today we celebrate and honor the hardworking custodians who keep our schools clean and safe. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that our learning environments are comfortable and conducive to education.
Let's take a moment to show our gratitude to these unsung heroes by saying thank you, giving a high-five, or simply smiling and acknowledging their efforts.
To all the custodians out there, we appreciate you and your dedication to our schools. Thank you for all that you do! 💙🧹🧼🚿🧻

📢 October is National Bullying Prevention Month! Let's raise awareness about the impact bullying can have on a student's education, physical and emotional health, safety, and well-being. 😔 The emotional scars can last a lifetime, which is why it's important to work together to create kinder, more inclusive, and accepting communities for all students. 👫
If you see something, say something. We encourage students, families and community members to speak up through our Safe Schools system: http://1376.alert1.us/

🧠 October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month.
Learning disabilities can be caused by genetic and neurobiological factors that affect cognitive processes related to learning, such as reading, writing, math, organization, time planning, abstract reasoning, memory, and attention.
Learning disabilities can impact an individual's life beyond academics, affecting relationships and work. While learning disabilities are often diagnosed during the school years, some individuals may not receive an evaluation until post-secondary education or adulthood.
It's important to note that learning disabilities should not be confused with other disabilities or disadvantages.
People with learning disabilities are often of average or above-average intelligence, but may struggle to demonstrate expected skills. Although learning disabilities are lifelong challenges, appropriate support and intervention can help individuals achieve success in various areas of life.

💻🎒👩🏫📚👨🏫👩🎓👨🎓👍🏽
Attending school provides students with countless opportunities to learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. It also enables them to build strong relationships with fellow students and teachers, which can be incredibly valuable in the long run. Moreover, being present in class ensures that students have access to the resources and support they need to succeed. Remember, every day counts! Let's prioritize education and show that being together makes us stronger! #SWSDStrongerTogether!

Please mark your calendars: Sedro-Woolley School District will host its annual parent review of the HIV/AIDS curriculum at 7 p.m. October 5, 2023 in the SWHS library.

Happy National Good Neighbor Day! Today is the perfect opportunity for students, staff and families to reflect on the importance of community and the positive impact that our neighbors have on our lives.
The Sedro-Woolley community truly understands that being a good neighbor isn't just about being friendly — it's about being there for one another in times of need.

📚👩🎓👨🎓🏫💼 Did you know that patterns of absenteeism often start in elementary school? Research shows that 11% of elementary students miss 18 or more days, with one in ten kindergarten and first grade students missing a month of school each year due to absences. This can have a significant impact on a child's education. 83% of students who are chronically absent in kindergarten and first grade cannot read on-level by third grade, and these students are 4x more likely to drop out.

Don't forget, all schools will start one hour late tomorrow so staff can participate in professional development!

Happy first day of autumn! It's time to say goodbye to the heat of summer and welcome the cool breezes of fall.
This season brings with it a vibrant display of colors as the leaves change, the smell of pumpkin spice in the air, and the excitement of upcoming school holidays (yes, some of us are already dreaming of winter break!).
Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of our changing season, whether you're sipping on a hot cider or taking a walk through your neighborhood, make sure to celebrate this first day of autumn in your own special way!
🍁🍂🎃

It's important to understand that chronic poor attendance in kindergarten and first grade is one of the best predictors of which students will eventually drop out of school. Missing just two days a month adds up to chronic absence. On the other hand, students who come to school regularly have far better options and opportunities open to them. Regular school attendance is linked to building trusting relationships, a healthier lifestyle, less risky teen behaviors, better time management, improved mental health, better social capital, and greater economic opportunities.
So let's encourage our young students to attend school regularly and make the most out of their educational opportunities! 🚀👨🎓👩🎓📚

🎓🏫👨👩👧👦📚 Sedro-Woolley School District values our students and families! ❤️ Your child's presence matters to us. 🔍👀 Our learning community is complete only when your child is here. 🌟 We prioritize our students' well-being and success, so we encourage them to come to school every day. Let's work together to help our students thrive! 💪 #SchoolCommunity #StudentSuccess #AttendanceMatters

🎉 Join us in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. 🎉
We are proud to recognize the rich heritage of Hispanic Americans in our community and the many contributions they have made to American culture. During the 2022-2023 school year, 1,097 of the 4,602 students enrolled in our school district identified as Hispanic/Latino. It is essential to acknowledge the vital role that Hispanic Americans have played in shaping our nation's history, art, music, language, and traditions.
We encourage everyone to take time this month to learn more about the history, culture, and achievements of Hispanic Americans.

Cascade Middle School students will be participating in the Healthy Youth Survey again this year. The survey asks questions about risks for injury, health outcomes, and alcohol and drug use. Schools, and state and local agencies use survey results to support our youth and reduce their risks. The Healthy Youth Survey is voluntary and anonymous and provides important information to guide policy and programs that serve our youth.
