The Sedro-Woolley School District is hosting "Reading & Resources on the Field" from 5:30–6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 22 on the Cascade Middle School playfields (905 McGarigle Road).
There will be 500 FREE backpacks stuffed with school supplies (thank you Inspire Church!).
Helping Hands Food Bank, the Sedro-Woolley Boys & Girls Club and other key organizations will be on hand to provide families with information about their services.
There will be fire trucks, police cars and Central Skagit Library will be there with information about their multitude of youth activities.
For more information, email swsdcoms@swsd101.org.

Families of incoming kindergarten students, or those new to the district should call the transportation department (360-855-3504) starting today, August 1, for 2024-2025 route information.
Parents should not wait until the last minute if their student is new to the district! Please alert the transportation department if your child will be riding the bus! Drivers will be learning new routes leading up to school, so alerting the department as early as possible is essential.
If your student will no longer be riding the bus or if your family has recently moved, please also alert the transportation department!

Cascade Middle School’s Sources of Strength program will be hosting a Family Day Luncheon on Wednesday, May 29.
Any family member can join their child during their student’s assigned lunch. Families will have two options:
Bring a special lunch for you and your child(ren). If you are bringing a special lunch, please RSVP by May 25.
The second option is to buy a school lunch for $5. The CMS kitchen will be featuring a soft taco bar that day featuring a locally sourced tortilla, with cold sandwich options available as well. If you plan on purchasing a school lunch, please RSVP by May 20 so our Food Service staff can plan for the correct number of people. We ask that families pre-pay for meals in the office by May 28 as cash is not accepted in the lunchroom.
With both options, the school needs you to RSVP so we can arrange seating for this amazing opportunity here at Cascade Middle School. To RSVP please fill out the Google survey link below or call the main office at 360-855-3520.

Cascade Middle School TRIO students had a blast on a whale-watching adventure on Friday, May 3.
Although the whales remained hidden, the Puget Sound waters near Anacortes treated students to an unforgettable experience!

Cascade Middle School’s Outstanding Employee of the Year Award goes to Desiree Beilfuss, who serves as the School Psychologist.
Her commitment to student well-being is evident in her tireless efforts to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Desiree's contributions extend far beyond her job description as she consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that students with IEPs receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially. She collaborates closely with case managers, playing a pivotal role in the Student Success Team, where she leads efforts to analyze data comprehensively and develop tailored interventions for individual students.
Desiree actively promotes a positive culture, interpersonal relationships with individuals, and goes out of her way to promote fun in the building.
Desiree's impact is not confined to the realm of student support alone. She also demonstrates leadership within the school community by spearheading initiatives such as the creation of visually appealing and meaningful bulletin boards throughout CMS. They are eye-catching, changed frequently and are helping the positive culture of our school thrive. These boards serve as both informative and uplifting displays, fostering a positive atmosphere that resonates with students and staff alike.
Congratulations!

Benjamin Martinez, an eighth grader at Cascade Middle School, was honored to serve as Superintendent of the Day on Thursday. As part of the honor, Benjamin toured the district's transportation department and was happy to see his bus driver, Suzanne Taylor! She is a big fan of his and is very envious of his grip strength. As a standout club wrestler, Benjamin is constantly working on becoming stronger, even on the bus. He was the state champion in Folkstyle Wrestling in the 136-pound weight class, representing Steelclaw Wrestling. He is ranked #3 in the nation. He hopes to someday wrestle at Penn State and pursue a degree in architectural engineering. As part of the transportation tour, Benjamin was also able to take a look underneath a school bus with Head Mechanic Jim Cimoch.
After the transportation tour, Benjamin traveled to City Hall for a behind the scenes tour with Jana Hilsinger, a permitting technician with the City of Sedro-Woolley. He met quite a few staff members and then ended the tour with Police Officer Cody Velthuizen giving him an in-depth look at a police cruiser.
After that, he had lunch with Superintendent Mickelson at the district office.
Finally, he headed up to Lyman Elementary School where he spent most of his elementary school years. He said this was the highlight of his day!
