Get to know our incredible team in the β€œMeet our Staff” Monday series! We hope you enjoy getting to know the faces behind the scenes! #MeetOurStaffMonday #BehindTheScenes #EmployeeAppreciation #GetToKnowUs #SWSDStrongerTogether Jenny Johnson, an English teacher at Sedro-Woolley High School, embodies dedication and passion in her 22 years of service within the Sedro-Woolley School District. Johnson's childhood traversed from Sedro-Woolley to Chicago, then Federal Way, before circling back to Sedro-Woolley. Despite the geographical shifts, Sedro-Woolley remained a constant in her life, shaping her educational journey from Evergreen Elementary School to Sedro-Woolley High School. Johnson pursued her academic endeavors at Western Washington University, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in English, followed by a Master's in Teaching from Northwest University. Her commitment to excellence led her to achieve a National Boards certificate and become AVID trained. Despite initially considering law enforcement at the age of 12, Johnson found her calling in education, aligning her schedule with her children's needs. "I realized I didn't want shift work, but a schedule that more aligned with their schedules," she explains. One of Johnson's most cherished experiences revolves around her work with AVID students. β€œI taught my AVID students from their 9th grade year to 12th,” she said. β€œI wanted them to understand that no matter what their current goals were for after graduation, they could always change and to not limit themselves in high school because of that. Two years after one of these students graduated, their sibling delivered a message to me saying the past AVID student wanted me to know that what I said was so true. He planned on a career in the auto mechanic field wanting to go straight to work after high school, which he did. However, two years later he realized he actually wanted to further his education and the classes that he was pushed to take in high school assisted him in getting into the program he was seeking.” Outside the classroom, Johnson finds joy in various hobbies, including camping, fishing, antiquing and gardening. Her passion for travel mirrors her aspiration to explore the world's diverse landscapes and cultures. Looking ahead, Johnson is steadfast in her commitment to enhancing student engagement and relevance within her lessons. "My professional goals for the future are to set goals for increasing student engagement through interactive activities, discussions, and projects," she affirms. Among Johnson's favorite quotes is one from the Disney movie Pollyanna, reflecting her optimistic outlook on life: "There is something about everything that you can be glad about, if you keep hunting long enough to find it" (Eleanor H. Porter, Pollyanna). Her advice to students (Time flies β€” don't let it slip away. Enjoy every moment of every day and TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE TIME TEACHERS GIVE YOU TO GET YOUR WORK DONE!) underscores the value of time and the importance of seizing every opportunity to learn and grow. Johnson hopes Sedro-Woolley High School students depart with enduring friendships and cherished memories.

He has held a previous summer position at Janicki Industries, volunteering at Evergreen Elementary, and volunteering at Camp Phoenix Burn Children Recovery Foundation. CTE classes here at SWHS have helped shape his future goals by determining that engineering is his passion. Brandon has always had an interest in designing and building all sorts of things. Seeing how systems work, and if he took it apart, could he put it back together before his parents found out. Finding simple solutions to what seemed like difficult problems. CTE has had a profound impact on his life and has shown that engineering is my future. After high school, Brandon plans on attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, or the University of Washington to obtain a Masters Degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering. LAILA HANSON has been named the February Soroptimist CTE Student of the month. Laila is a senior at Sedro-Woolley High School. She enjoys hanging out with her family and friends, playing tennis, attending Future Farmers of America (FFA) events and volunteering at her local district Fire Department. CTE classes here at SWHS have helped shape her future goals by giving her an unlimited amount of skills that she will carry throughout life. As well as opportunities, resources and connections that will highly benefit her in a future career and allow her to be successful in her career choice. The agriculture classes at SWHS have made the largest impact on her high school career. Having some of the best people and advisors around, FFA has been the only thing that has gotten her through high school. Finding a niche as a chapter officer, she’s been able to serve as our Reporter and District 1 Reporter this year and will be receiving a State Degree at this year’s State Convention. FFA has taught her about what it takes to be a leader, setting the best example for students to look up to, making sure the chapter is set up for success for our next generation of students here at SWHS, and highlighting student accomplishments are things she has always enjoyed doing. After high school, Laila plans to further her education in fire fighting, with the goal of becoming a full-time firefighter one day soon. Congratulations Laila!
